Books and manuscripts

A rather quiet week after the Easter break while I’m waiting for books to arrive. After some debate, I found what looks like a useful option for extending my understanding of towns in the thirteenth and fouteenth centuries – not vital maybe, but reassuring, and a newer book than the old standard Holt and Rosser.

A little break from Bevis while I work on an unrelated article seems to be helping to loosen up my thinking, and I keep remembering being urged to think in terms of ‘Soufflé’ while struggling to write my thesis. That old desire to keep the text rigidly under control is still with me!

Looking forward now to getting back to thinking about the Auchinleck manuscript and maybe arguing against the Romance specialists.
