Expanding the horizon

The more I work on Boeve the wider the historical and geographical scope becomes for the research. The theory of the ‘privatisation’ of history and politics seems relevant to the change of tone that has been noticed, but this is only one potential aspect. It is beginning to look as though the shift in tone will require an intensely dialectical approach in order to explore the relationship between structure, history, politics, and story.

Meanwhile, work on Bevis of Hampton for the Literary Encyclopaedia also continues and will take priority for a while.
