Although there’s very little time for organised writing these days, it’s amazing what can be achieved in the time it takes me to have 2 cups of coffee first thing in the morning! It’s a time to try focussing on any matter that needs attention, and as a result of reading an old-ish article on Patronage, it has occurred to me that I need to re-order my argument slightly. This is a task for the holidays – I hope.
I have also been re-reading some of my oldest notes, taken when I was writing the Introduction for the translation. This has also proved useful because it has helped me to deal with the status given to Boeve’s horse. It’s long been understood that there is something of a mythic connection between Josian and the horse, most likely based on Celtic mythology, but I believe there is another connection, so that will be tomorrow morning’s thinking!
Progress remains painfully slow. My hopes of going to the Romances conference were dashed in the end, and heaven alone knows if I will be able even to spend some time in Southampton’s archives during the coming holidays, but I am still moving forward. Indeed, there have been moments lately when I have also thought about the Bevis book proposal! It must be the effect of the Spring!!
