Bevis of Hampton is a local hero with a long, distinguished history and a wide geographical range. The translation I have just had published is from the 14th century Middle English manuscript known as the Auchinleck MS. Publication took place in late October 2015 to coincide with the first Southampton Literary Festival, and the book will be available from 24th October from Blackwells’ mobile stall in Guildhall Square, Southampton.
The Auchinleck MS was itself a translation, and displays an unexpectedly political agenda as well as being an dynamic medieval adventure story.
The publication of the translation marks the culmination of my latest major research project, although I have published in other areas recently. I hope to take the translation in new directions if time and other commitments permit.
